Co-developing an accessible and inclusive field-based course: A student-driven approach

Cohort July 2023: Faculty of Forestry – Nolan Bett, Warden Cardinal-McTeague, Ellie Auton-Strolz, Jamie Butts, Izzy Leyshon

Project background

Field-based courses provide a valuable opportunity for students to become fully immersed in experiential learning. Their unique structure, however, can create barriers to accessibility and inclusion that limit the benefits attained by some students. Our project will use a student-driven approach to identify and address potential barriers in CONS 451 (Integrated Conservation Field School), a 15-credit Capstone course in the Faculty of Forestry’s Natural Resources Conservation program. We will aim to develop, implement, and refine changes to the course that provide a more accessible and inclusive field learning experience for future CONS 451 cohorts.
